Controversial ways of reading the bible

This material was used by TSCF volunteer Esther Lui for a student forum.
1. Common verses taken out of context. Common bible verses we use without knowing its original context.
2. What is the difference between a translated version, a paraphrase and a bible-inspired fictional account of a text.
3. How to write your own paraphrase.
4. Principles for biblical interpretation.
5. Why context matters? Author, Genre, audience, section of text, grasping the main idea. Letting the bible speak for itself.

In the Waikato, Andrew Lim does a 3.5-hour hands-on workshop on "How to Read the Bible?" The topics covered are: How to do devotions or meditate on scripture? Tools for unpacking scripture. Inductive bible study techniques.
For a longer in-depth session join other students for a 4-day workshop at Summit (mid year conference).
